Together with Commercial Art, the London-based branding agency, Brand On developed a custom-made signage design for Nokia’s research group. The group needed a slightly different brand expression to reflect their creative spirit, though rooted in the Nokia identity.

"It was a great experience working with Brand On in the design development stage. Their account manager clearly understood what we were trying to develop and put a lot of time and effort into prototyping, helping us achieve the result we wanted. We will happily work with Brand On again." — Rick Sellars,Creative Director, Commercial Art

To achieve the right brand expression, Commercial Art designed signage that followed corporate guidelines but used innovative new materials and a special shape to express the group’s brand position within Nokia.

A compound was specially created from etronite (which is a paper compound) and acrylic. The result looks like aluminium but is incredibly light. Layers of this material, each a shade of the same colour, were bonded together. The result is a sign that shimmers and gives a gorgeous depth. Fresh, young and modern, it reflected the attitudes of the design group.

The design and prototyping process took nine months. In order to get the curve on the signage just right, Brand On worked closely with the designers. It needed to be perfect to generate the light effects required but also completely smooth with the right material tolerances. Brand On, being part of the Modulex Group, has a history of bringing new technologies to our clients. And our willingness to invest time to explore new processes together ensures that we stay at the forefront of signage innovation.
